अजय सिर्फ दस साल का था जब उसके पिता का देहांत हो गया. वो एक मछुआरे का बेटा था, समंदर के किनारे टूटी-फूटी सी झोपड़ी में रहता था. उसके पिता, मंजूनाथ, पूरे गाँव में सबसे निडर और कुशल मछुआरे माने जाते थे. अजय को याद आता था, बचपन में कैसे वो अपने पिता के साथ समंदर में जाता था. मंजूनाथ उसे जाल फेंकना सिखाते थे, लहरों से जूझना सिखाते थे. वो अजय को अक्सर कहते थे, “समंदर ताकतवर है, बेटा, लेकिन इंसान की हिम्मत उससे भी ज्यादा ताकतवर होती है.”
English Translation: (Ajay was only ten years old when his father passed away. He was the son of a fisherman, living in a ramshackle hut by the sea. His father, Manjunath, was known as the most fearless and skilled fisherman in the entire village. Ajay remembered how he used to go out to sea with his father as a child. Manjunath would teach him how to cast nets, how to fight the waves. He would often tell Ajay, “The sea is powerful, son, but a man’s courage is even more powerful.”)
लेकिन एक रात, तूफान आया. समंदर इतना बेरहम हो गया कि उसने मंजूनाथ को वापस नहीं लौटाया. अजय की माँ गम में डूब गईं. उनके पास रेशन के पैसे भी मुश्किल से जुट पाते थे. अजय ने स्कूल छोड़ दिया. वो बंदरगाह पर मजदूरी करने लगा.
English Translation: (But one night, a storm came. The sea turned so brutal that it didn’t return Manjunath. Ajay’s mother drowned in grief. They could barely afford food. Ajay quit school and started working as a laborer at the port.)
Remembering the Motivational Words of Father
दिन-रात काम करने के बाद भी अजय को अपने पिता की कमी खलती रहती. एक शाम, बंदरगाह पर जहाजों को देखते हुए, उसे अपने पिता के शब्द याद आए. उसने सोचा, “पिताजी कहते थे समंदर ताकतवर है, पर इंसान की हिम्मत उससे भी ज्यादा ताकतवर होती है. तो फिर मैं समंदर को ही अपना रास्ता क्यों ना बना लूँ?”
English Translation: (Even after working day and night, Ajay felt the void left by his father. One evening, watching the ships at the port, his father’s words echoed in his mind. He thought, “Father used to say the sea is powerful, but a man’s courage is even more powerful. Then why not make the sea my own path?”)
अजय ने छोटी सी नाव से शुरुआत की. वो मछली पकड़ता और बेचता. उसने कमाए हुए पैसों से धीरे-धीरे और बड़ी नाव खरीदी. वो दूर-दूर तक समंदर में जाता, दुर्लभ मछलियां पकड़ता. कुछ ही सालों में, अजय के जहाज पूरे समंदरों में चलने लगे. उसकी कंपनी दुर्लभ मछलियों का सबसे बड़ा व्यापारी बन गई.
